Personal: I have been drawn to movement my entire life, from gymnastics to hip hop and jazz dancing to running, swimming and biking and anything else that I have been lucky enough to have a chance to try. Physical activities/sports have provided a positive outlet for me throughout my life. Upon graduating college and retiring from gymnastics, turning to yoga felt like a natural sequence for me. At first I loved having a new outlet to challenge myself physically, but later, as I learned more about yogic philosophy, I became drawn to the wisdom behind the teachings, which also felt like a natural path for me having been a psychology major. When my first daughter was born in 2003, I began teaching yoga. Becoming a Mom and a yoga instructor both served to deepen my own yoga practice even more. I still love finding new ways to challenge myself physically and mentally, and trying to face my fears head on. Bringing yoga to a women's shelter is my current passion, challenging my ability to grow, adapt and spread peace through yoga and meditation.
DanceAwakenings: Combining my two passions of yoga and dance was like putting chocolate and peanut butter together… once I tried it, there was no going back! My yoga has become a dance, and I view sports and life now through the eyes of yoga. Dancing my yoga has taught me to let go more completely, and the more I let myself go, the easier it is to find my Self… a place of peace, dignity, compassion, honesty and love.
I love teaching yoga dance because it makes me feel like I am walking along side people on their own journey, helping them to see the wonderful path that lies before them. Or, in the very least, giving them the space to dance like they are still 12 years old!
I do my best to live by the words of Charles Dickens: “Do all the good you can, and make as little fuss about it as possible.”
